The 17 years old ARDBEG is now out of stock at ARDBEG distillery.

The 17 years old Ardbeg has become more rare at the retailers this year, but Ardbeg has sold it at it's homepage until now. Recently Ardbeg cancelled it from it's own homepage and the 17 years old Ardbeg is for sure gone for some time. With a little calculation it's obvious that this whisky was made from the time before the distillery closed in the early 1980's. So if you can find a bottle (and they are still possibly to find) buy one or more.

A more fun news is that Ardbeg distillery relies a new whisky, Uigeadail, a cask strength 54,2%, no age set. WSMS will of course try to taste this whisky in the future. It can be bought at Ardbegs homepage.

WSMS has bought a 18 year old Glendronach for tasting !!

What a early Christmas present, WSMS has got a bottle of a 18 year old Glendronach to give a taste on the next event. The tasting is planed to be at 2/1 and will be a tasting of sherry flavoured Whisky. Beside the 18 year old Glendronach WSMS will also give a re-taste of the 15 year old Glendronach. It's has also been announced that a Macallan Grand Reserva will be present.

The Macallan Vintage Travel Range now in Sweden !

From 3/11 is the Macallan Vintage Travel Range for sale by the Swedish retailer. The Whisky Range consists of four bottles which is named after the decade's 20, 30, 40 and 50.

The magazine "Allt om Whisky" will come out this autumn in Sweden. This will be a good

USA searched for "weapons" on a Scottish distillery

The manager for a distillery discovered that an American intelligence service had watched the distillery for weapon of mass destruction. The distillery has a website where it's possibly to watch at the making of Whisky through webcameras.
The manager was contacted by a woman who pointed out that one of the cameras was out of order. The manager did  find out that the woman was working for "US Defense threat reduction agency".
He made inquiries about the situation and found out that the American intelligence was watching trough the webcameras because the Whisky making process has similarities with the making of some weapon of mass destruction.

What a evening !!

19/9 was WSMS at the Stockholm Beer and Whisky festival.

Two of the members took a trip to  Stockholm for some tasting and enjoyment. We re-meet som "old" friends but tasted and also some new. Of course we took a taste of the 30 years old Macallan and the "Lord of the Isles" from Ardbeg. We also tasted a 30 years old Glenfiddich, Macallan Replica 1861, Balvenie Islay Cask, Mortlach sherry Cask, Springbank Port Wood and Talisker Sherry Wood. We took some notes for you to read in our tasting section (soon avalibale).

The festival was great and become even greater as we meet Stuart Thompson from Ardbeg. We had a chat with him and also took a dram together, did you know that Stuart is a Rangers football fan.

At last we gived the Springbank 175 Anniversary a taste !

9/8, had WSMS a tasting of 6 new Whiskies to add to our tastings.

WSMS tasted Glennmorange, Springbank, Ledaig, Caol Ila, Bruichladdich and Fuaran Ile. It was a wonderful afternoon and the sun was shining at us, can it be better than this !!!
Take a look at the results and be inspired to open one of your own bottles or by one. The six bottles was a close race but the winner at 84 points was the 15 years old Ledaig, the Springbank reached 83 points.

Stockholm Beer And Whisky Festival

Yes! it's time again for the Stockholm Beer And Whisky Festival.  The dates to remember is:
18 - 20 & 25 - 27 september.
Mr Michael Jackson nominated, 2000, Stockholm Beer And Whisky Festival to be one of the four most substantial beer festivals in the World.  2001 Mr Michael Jackson appointed  Stockholm Beer And Whisky Festival to be his own favourite festival.

Of course WSMS will be there...

14/7, had WSMS a tasting of 4 new Whiskies to add to our tastings.

WSMS tasted Dalmore, Laphroaig and two Macallan. It was also the intention to taste our Springbank (Anniversary) this time. Unfortunately was not the fourth member present so
the Springbank will be tasted on the next tasting.

New bottles has been opened !

10/5, had WSMS a tasting of 5 Whiskies.

WSMS get together for a  tasting of Knockando, Glengoyne, Highland Park, Lagavulin and Ardbeg. As usual the five tasted whiskies was of high quality and two of them, Highland Park and Lagavulin,   manage to reach the top 10 list.

ARDBEG from 1897

One bottle of very old Ardbeg has been opened in Sweden. The contents in the bottle is from 1897. It was stored in the barrel for 12 years before it 1909 was bottled.

The Swedish Whisky Bar Akkurat in Stockholm bought the bottle on the Royal Mile Whiskies in Edinburgh for a lot of money. Jim Murray and distillery manager for Ardbeg, Stuart Thompson was invited to open the bottle. Jim pour up some Whisky in his glass and took a taste....

- Almost to good to be true
- I hope with my god that this is real

So if somebody is in Stockholm this Whisky can be tasted for a little sum of money.

Mackmyra köper lageryta i Stockholmsskärgård

Whiskytillverkaren, som 1999 startade ett bränneri i Mackmyra bruk mellan Gävle och Sandviken, har hyrt ett bergrum på Fjäderholmarna som tidigare användes som ammunitionslager. Där ska 500 whiskyfat lagras.

Springbank firar 175 år, WSMS gratulerar

Det anrika destilleriet Springbank firar i år sitt 175'e år. I samband med detta kommer destilleriet att släppa en begränsad jubileums upplaga, 12000 flaskor world wide (inte så liten).
Även vi i Sverige kommer att erbjudas dessa flaskor. WSMS har varit i kontakt med Springbank i detta ärende och de meddelar att det handlar om en 12 åring på 46%, vilken kommer att släppas nu i April. Flaskan kommer att betinga ett pris på £35 i England.

Springbank 175 Year.

Springbank will release a 12 Year Old Whisky to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the distillery, it will be released in April this year. The bottling will be at 46%abv and limited to 12,000 bottles worldwide.

Glendronach och Scapa

Det var som WSMS befarat, enligt obekräftade källor kommer ägaren till Glendronach, Allied Domecq att dra in försäljningen helt av Glendronach i Europa till fördel för marknaderna i Amerika och Asien. Anledningen är Whisky brist då Glendronach stängdes 1996 och lagren börjar nu att ta slut.

Tyvärr är de dåliga nyheterna inte slut med det, Allied Domecq  äger även Scapa på Orkeny öarna, och denna Whisky kommer att gå samma öde som Glendronach tillmötes. Även Scapa är nu mera ett "tyst" destilleri och den kommer nu att försvinna från Europa.

Det är alltså dax att börja BUNKRA !!!!!!!!!

Glendronach
The 15 years old Glendronach has run out of bottles at the Swedish supplier. WSMS has from unknown sources got the news that Allied Domecq will redraw Glendronach and Scapa from the European market and only sell the two Whiskeis on the American and Asian markets.

30/12, WSMS tasted 3 new single malts and added them to the score list.

We tasted Scapa, Macallan (thirties) and (at last) Lagavulin. The score and the tasting notes can be find here. It was Lagavulin which was victorious and scored 92 points and is now on the top ten list.

After the tasting some of the members also tasted a 15 years old Springbank, but thats another story.
